YouTube Picture in Picture mode on MacOS and Windows
There's a very interesting tool for using the Picture in Picture feature on YouTube that allows us to create a floating window that is NOT overlapped by other windows and that automatically moves between desktops.
How to enable it on YouTube (on Mac)
Here, for example, on any video on YouTube, you do the following:
- First, right-click on the video: a window will appear with the typical YouTube options.
- Second, right-click (yes, another one) on the same video: now you'll see the "Screen in Screen" option (or "Picture in Picture," if you haven't translated it).
Click it, and that's it!
The floating window will automatically appear.
How to enable it on YouTube (on Windows)
On Windows, the process is practically the same:
Click once.
Then right-click on the video.
Select "Picture in Picture."
And that's it, you have the same functionality.
Everything else works just like I mentioned for Mac.
Advantages of Picture in Picture mode
The beauty of this is that:
- You can place this little window anywhere on the screen.
- Even if you click on another window (for example, the browser to give it focus), the video always overlaps.
- You can also resize the window and drag it wherever you want.
- Even when the ad is appearing, you can close the mode from the browser and reactivate it if necessary.
Another thing I love is that it works with multiple desktops.
For example, I use several, and the video window follows me between desktops, which is very useful.
I usually place it in a corner (for example, here), at any size I want, and there I can play anything:
from a tutorial to some nonsense on YouTube while I work.
I agree to receive announcements of interest about this Blog.
I show you how to activate Picture in Picture Mode for YouTube on Windows and MacOS.
