Evaluating Game Mechanics, Gameplay, and Settings: Hogwarts Legacy - Review

Video thumbnail

Here I wanted to quickly give a little of my opinion to evaluate the mechanics of the game that you are seeing on the screen, which by the way I just finished a couple of days ago, so I decided to give a little analysis of it. Well here is a little of what you can see, obviously a pretty entertaining game has a very good reputation, but so I would like to talk about some things, which is why I mainly make these videos, some mechanics that I would have liked to see improved, obviously what I am talking about here is that everything about mechanics, if I make these videos it is precisely for when one wants to implement a similar mechanic and it does not mean that it is a similar game because this is a fairly large game, so to do it, for example, a person who is a bit like me would work would be practically impossible, apart from many difficulties that I can have, about things that I do not know how to implement, that is why I like to talk more than anything about mechanics, that is to say, some functionality that I want, as they say, to copy or adapt to my needs.

Generic game: RPG + Magic

So the first thing I want to say is that it is an RPG type game as you can see with the advantages and disadvantages that this type of game brings us in this case I want to talk a little more about the disadvantages it is a game that I feel is a little generic although comparisons are odious and one thing sometimes has nothing to do with the other even if it is the same type of game even so I like to compare certain things I like to compare it for example with Final Fantasy remake any of the two that end well that are on the market at the date which I am recording this video since when you play those games you see that they have that magic or that is chisa that they had the initial delivery but this I did not feel like that anywhere I feel that it is a generic game a generic RPG game and from here they simply added certain mechanics to play with magic That is to say for the wand the use of the wand the magic and the whole question that by the way to learn a new magic I really never made a mistake I do not think that anyone has made a mistake it is an extremely eh simple thing They simply give you like a figure and you have to start giving it to the levers and you already turned on the magic, that is to say, everything feels very, very poor in that sense.

I feel sometimes a bit like this Pokémon game with weapons in which when you play it you feel that there are many things mixed together, you feel that it is a little bit like a cell, you feel that it is obviously a little bit of Pokémon and you feel that it is a Fortnite-type shooting game, so they simply mixed all that together and this is what came out in this case, I feel something similar with this, again a generic RPG game that they simply added a layer for the magic part and little else.

The clothes

Precisely speaking of that little integration that I see that this is also seen a lot in RPG games is the clothing it is supposed that you are a student therefore I read the books a long time ago although I don't remember them that much and obviously I also saw the movies and obviously you couldn't go as a clown to school because you have to respect certain forms of clothing of course here obviously you have to extract yourself a little it is an RPG game so you have to as who say force things a little but even so I think they could have made a little effort and made designs a little more subtle or directly not use as who says again such generic elements in any other type of RPG as always is the hats scarves the tunic and everything else to be something a little more specific and that is not so striking that as who says it could be a little overlooked that it really is a student with all the limitations in this case for the clothing that should be had that should not be like a clown again so I will continue moving forward here since I always take some screenshots here I really do not remember what it was that I wanted to capture.

But well, it's basically this, you have a control for magic and everything else. But if you take this away, it already feels like a generic RPG, it's not almost any connection with Harry Potter, well, this and other little things, obviously the animation parts, where things are always flying and everything else.

Terrible body animations

But I think there was a lack of integration in everything here, for example, one of the things that I do find fatal, which is also, again, these are a bit of the disadvantages that RPGs have, which are such big games that in the end you always have to sacrifice some things, for example, in this case, with interacting with other characters or with the setting, but for example, in this mission with this character who was Ominis, who is a friend of a friend, I found it quite pathetic because I don't know why the hell they placed it like that, at least the story hasn't finished because this is a sub-story, a secondary story of the main one, I finished it, it was the main story, I haven't finished it, so I don't know if the guy has some physical problem or who knows, in which, notice that I'm looking at him from the front and the guy is looking at the floor, I don't know why it feels very generic, you know, I don't know why they did it like that, the idea was for him to see you from the front, but I don't know if he's afraid of you or has some problem, and I think the worst of all here is the gesticulation of the bodies, that is to say, whenever they are talking about you or me, if it is about me they put their hand on their chest and if it is about you they point at you with their hand. Eh, it seems to me a horrible gesticulation because nobody speaks like that, as you can see here it seems that he is having an epileptic attack and every time he says an expression he is gesturing with his body, I am going to run the scene from here a little. Look at this one that is about to take his hand to his chest because he is talking about himself, so the whole damn game is like that, it seems that they take the same animation and recycle it in all the characters and this guy seems to have cataracts and again he is looking at the floor, so it feels very strange.

The secondary characters collide with everything.

The use of the broom…

You just get on a stick and you have two accesses two more buttons and it's over I didn't like that part well the typical B in RPG that happened to me quite a lot really this one because he stayed there bugging walking in the same circle and couldn't get out of there and this is the movement part that I wanted to talk about that I also didn't like this part at all this integration that they did that precisely the first time I saw it one of the things that caught my attention was that I don't even remember seeing the Harry Potter actor doing his movements that is to say crawling these are generic movements that you can see in any other type of RPG that he moves to the sides or well in that way I at least am not capable of doing that I am sure that most people are not capable of doing that and what I mean by this is that magic is supposed to be a bit the opposite of the movements of physical force therefore if a normal person understands in the real world it is although comparisons are a bit odious and I know that I am comparing with a video game.

Too many physical movements for a magician

When you play a game the idea is that in its universe it is realistic therefore if they are focused on magic I think they had to put a slightly more subtle movement precisely it could be with magic that floats or teleports or something like that instead of doing those pirouettes that again neither in the books nor in the movies I'm not going to see anyone moving like that it's too flexible too much flexibility for the real theme of the game which is really magic for the rest it's a pretty interesting game and those were the mechanics that I wanted to tell you a little about in case I wanted to copy a mechanic here what I learned is that they should focus a little more on what is the integration part so that everything seems like it is part of a whole and that in this case it is not two generic elements which in this case is a generic RPG game plus a layer of magic that they added and that was the result of what you are seeing on the screen.

The protagonist, above average

Another thing that I also didn't like is that they glorify the Player as the main character and I feel a little bit here like he is the paradigm in case you also know or are watching or know him from something the anime of Boruto which is the son of Naruto in which everyone is already like colloquially saying pull him as if it were the latest wonder this game is just like that So that bothers me a lot because in the end he loses a lot of, as they say, empathy because in the end he is an almost perfect character so it becomes a little boring that everyone is simply flirting with you
